Use your brain!

Think about it. If everyone made a page on the wiki and wrote down every hint that Mr.Case has given us during the lessons, we would all get a really good mark on the test.
Business concept. Which is when you describe to him roughly what you are going to do for your business. You use Microsoft word to show your general idea. What sort of costs and obstacle are you going to have to overcome? Like time, knowledge and more.
Using excel we are going to create a budget. One how much money are
Gross income- how much money you bring in. [your earnings.]
Net is the amount of money you earn after taking away the expenses.
Capitol expense- all the extra expenses that you will have, even when your business is done.
You want to think of everything.
You can break it down to operational expenses.
When it comes to taxes, its easier.
Business cards for 25 dollars.
You can get a basic web page for about 150 dollars.
You need to think about the rent costs.
You have to think about buying shelves, painting the store, getting people to set things up for you.
Your net income is your total income minus your total expenses. Then you have to look at the total and see if the business you are planing to do is realistic.
You have to be REALISTIC, or else your business wont work!
Is your business viable! When you hand it in to Mr.Case and he says you idiot your going to lose money, then your business is not worth it.
Just because you have lost money, it doesn't mean that its not a worthwhile business.
The capital expenses are sometimes worthwhile.
Opening your business is a risk. But some good things about having a business is that you are working for yourself. If things go well, you can make more money than working in MacDonalds or anywhere else. Job experience. It looks good on your resume when you are going to work for somewhere else. For example, if you want to then go work in MacDonalds, and on your resume you have written that you owned your own business, it will get you a better position.
Here is what you need to do:
start on making your own business budget on excel.
And write your business idea for your business, on Microsoft word for Monday's class so that you are not behind, because we are moving onto something else on Monday.
Work hard and think everything through!
Bye.

BTT summative Part UNE !

Here are some stupid ideas that people in the past have thought of and haven't succeeded!
Opening a Ferrari dealership! Think about it, could a 15 year old really open up a place, buy a large amount of Ferrari's and sell them, in only two months! It is highly unlikely. So try to come up with something reasonable, affordable, and realistic!
If you want a level four on your project, you have to work hard and think about every possibility, question, and obstacle. A level three is when Mr.Case will look at your project and will agree that you have done everything that was asked for you to do, nothing more or less. A level two is when Mr.Case looks at your work and laughs! If you want to open up a Ferrari dealership, you guarantee yourself a level two or lower! And level one is when you have not done any sort of thinking on your project and the night before it was due, you remembered that you needed to hand it in! And of course, zero is when you don't hand anything in at all.
Many people first think of retail and selling food. The problem with retail is that you need to sell your product with a lower amount that you bought the product for. Also, how and where are you going to sell them? Wholesale is cheaper in ways because you don't buy a large about of a product. There are many questions you need to be able to answer so that your business goes well. For example, where are you going to keep your product? Where are you going to open up your business? If its at home, then think about how you can sell things by making people come to your house! If you are planing on renting a store somewhere then you need to think about the costs. Like how much you have to pay to rent the place, things like electricity, insurance, alarm systems etc. How are you going to find the money to do all these, but also finish the two months with more money that you started out with.
If you want to sell food to people, for example a hot dog stand, you need to get permission from the government so that you can set up in one specific place in the city. You also need permits that show you are capable of making and selling food to people.
These are just one of the many questions you will be facing when coming up with an idea for your summative. Keep in mind that if you want a good mark, you need to think your idea through, and not just the basics but everything there is about it. Think about the money you will spend and in return the money you will gain.
Your job for the next two days is to come up with an idea for your summer job. Get opinions from three other people. Two your own age, and one adult. See if they think its a good idea, and if it will succeed. Be prepared to do work on it on Wednesday.
Also, make sure you study for the Flash and Dream Weaver test that is coming up on Monday!
There are three types of businesses in Canada:
Sole proprietorship: is when one person owns the business. You can have people work for you, but only one person is the owner.
Partnership: it is exactly as it sounds. You and another person, or people own the business. But if along the way you change your mind and you want to own the whole business, you can pay their share of the business, and therefore making yourself the owner.
Corporation: Corporation is kind of like a company. For example, if you sue a company, you are not necessarily suing the owner but the company itself. A corporation can be owned by more than one person. Although the more supply there is, the more the value of things go down.

A takeover is when someone comes in and expresses their idea but no one likes it, so they don't agree upon it. Therefore everyone decides to vote on it. But if you have bought their share then you win, because you own most of the company. A takeover is when one person has gone around and bought everyone's ownership of the company, and therefore gets to decide upon what changes occur.

These are many things you need to take into account for your project. Remember, if you want a good mark, you have to work hard!
Bye for now.

Stay on Task!

We usually start the day out with a lesson on something new, and then get to work on whatever that we have been assigned for the rest of the period. But today started out differently. We first began with talking about our portfolio, which is due at the end of the year. Also other things that are due very soon are our flash projects and our websites. Yes, make sure you complete them and hand them into Mr.Case no later than Monday, because Mr.Case is going to be giving us a completion mark for our websites, and a mark for our flash projects. But as soon as the flash projects were brought up, everyone started to complain about the limited time we had to complete them. The reason for this is that these flash projects were supposed to be a practice for us so that we can better our skills in flash.
Before we got time to work on our projects and anything else that needed completing, we touched upon our summative that is going to be given to us on Monday, as soon as everyone comes back from Ottawa. The good news is that we DON'T have an end of the year exam for BTT, which in my opinion is great because it just adds to the amount of studying that we have to already do. But the drawback is that the project we are getting will be worth 30% of our BTT mark, which is a great deal of a mark!! This summatives will make or break us, so you have to start thinking of ways in which you can make the best out of it.
Now for the good part. What our summatives is going to be. We are required to come up with a summer job that will fit our budget, our capability and is realistic. It is kind of like a company that you are making. You have to write plans and ideas down about how, where, when and why you want to create the kind of company that you chose. But I wont get into too much detail because Mr.Case will explain everything on Monday.
Another thing that you need to keep track of is your portfolio. You need to put your portfolio into your website, because it is something that represents you and all the different things you've done during this school year. You need to get working on it if you want it completed by the end of the year, and ready to hand in!
These are many important things that you need to complete by the end of the year so that you can get the best mark as possible in this course.
However, after all this scary news was over, we got to work on our flash projects, websites and anything else that we wanted to.
That's all the news for now.
Get tarted on your summatives so that you have time to finish all of them!
Bye.

Not at Ottawa? So you have to learn!!

Hello everyone. Our class today seems very odd because there are a few people missing. But I must say its not that much of a difference for our BTT class, but for the other classes, there are a lot of people missing! Anyways, today we are going to learn how to fix/create videos. This is just a cool way to increase your marks for summatives. This information that Mr.Case is teaching us today will not be on any sort of test, its just for out own knowledge!

When you capture a video, the program you have opened it with will save your file on the computer and then read it. But if you import them then it means that the program is bringing the video into the program to read it.
On your movie maker screen, you can see three things; a timeline that is at the bottom of your page, the stage that is on the right, and the well which is where you can see everything.
Scene is the number of times when you turn your camera on and off, to take different pictures.
Auto movie means that windows decide were the movies would best fit in.
You can make your video brighter, darker, look old, and many more.
When you want to edit your movies, its better to do it using the timeline because you can actually see your videos.
Transition means change between two scenes.
By changing the order, you can simply drag your video from the beginning to anywhere on the timeline that you want.
If you don't like a part, you can cut it out by shortening the frame.
You can put the same thing over and over again, by putting the same video in several times.
You can copy and past it anywhere for as many times as you want.
You can also trim anything that you don't want, that is in the video itself. Cutting is when you take the whole clip away, but trim is taking some part of a video out.
Here is where kids freak out all the time.
If you save it as an MSWMM then it will not work because what this file does is that it gives the computer instructions to go to the computer, get the pictures/videos and make changes and play it. So if you save it on a USB, it wont work!
If you save it as an email, it is going to save on a USB key. Just like a JPEG, because it is a lossy file. MWV is a small file. But if you save your work as a DVAVI file, it will take up lots of space.
You can also add titles on your screen, but because the title is inverted, it blanks out everything else.
The more things you have on your video, the more it will take for the video to export it. Like titles, clips and more.
Always save your files as AVI.
FLA is an flash file. SWIFF is a flash animation. FLV is a flash video.
Frame rate it the frames per second.
The standard size for the Internet is 360x240.
Frame rate is 15.
This information is just for your information, because Mr.Case wont test us on it.
*If you have Windows XP at home, then you automatically have it at home, because this program comes with windows XP. Or you can search Movie KP, on search and it will find it for you.*
Here comes the fancy stuff!! =]
Your going to need Flash CS3, and Dream Weaver.
Go to Insert-Media-Flash video and bring in the videos you want.
You can put a skin on a video, which is the over layer. It creates a basic video for you. You can chose different ones.
You can create your own skin. Go to Create-skin. And then chose the size and frame.
Only use progressive download. Then chose the skin you want, [you can chose the colour you want for your skin] press next and finish. Save it as ''name'' FLA.
Your taking a video and making an animation out of your video.
Go to publish settings[where you want to publish] and chose where you want. The HTML is important because you want to put it on the Internet. Press publish, and your done. *If you have the video open, it wont publish.*
Farzin has gladly volunteered to let us use his videos so that we can play around with them.
So use them well!! =]
That's all the learning I can take today!
Have a great Wednesday!! And people at Ottawa have fun!!
Bye.

Who likes rainy days?

It's a Monday morning. But it's a different Monday morning, because its raining outside, and everyone is feeling gray and tired. At least I know I am. Mr.Case asked us to finish or start if you haven't already, on our flash projects. Also make sure that your web pages are done by the end of the week, so that you can hand it in. Also try to finish your flash projects so that we can start on our summatives.
Here's something cool that's going to be happening in the near future. There is going to be an electric engineer coming to our class to talk to us about well electric engineering! I can't wait, especially because this is a job that I am considering for my future, so I'd like to familiarize myself with it more.

Finish all your work as soon as possible because summatives are starting to build up on us!
Bye.

Use it wisely!

Before we could start on our own individual flash projects, we needed to complete our pool table and show it to Mr.Case so that we can get the approval of starting on our own project. I have a few ideas in mind, but I'm pretty sure that if I think harder on it, I can come up with something impressive. The good thing about learning flash is that you can apply your knowledge of flash into your summatives! Lets say you have a project that requires you to make some kind of presentation on the computer. What better way to do that than by using flash! You can then hand in your project for that specific subject, but at the same time, hand in a copy of it to Mr.Case for marks. Two projects in one! I think that's a very clever idea, and hopefully, if I'm lucky, I'll be able to do that too!
But before you can get a good mark for your hard work, you need to do the work, and do it well. There are many tips Mr.Case points out to us while he is teaching us something, so make sure you listen well so you can learn them. Today in class, we got our final time to work on our pool table, and get started on our own projects.
Here are some tips to help you make your project the best it can be.
If you want to add pictures, go to file import library, to bring pictures into your flash.
If you want it to fade in and fade out, click on your picture, go down to colour, alfa is your transparency. If you drag your picture from zero, and then increase your alfa to 100, it will start out faded and fade in.
To make a picture rotate, you need to click on transform tool and brings out dots on the picture so you can change the size and the way it rotates.
Onion skin shows you the frames before and after.
When you have a dotted line, it means that there it nothing there for you to insert a tween.
If you see a white circle, it means that there is no tween. And at the end of a tween, you will see a white circle.
Make sure to work on your flash projects so you can get them done and out of the way, so you also have time to work on your websites.
Have a great weekend!

Flash about Flash!

Before we start this class, we watched a video that was about Flash, using Flash! Watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgwxXKsZhAo Its very cool!
View-magnification-fit window. That is how you make it fit the window.
Tween means in between.
We are all busy making our pool tables so that we can get Mr.Case to look at it. Once we have finished it, we
Export[choose version] choose flash 9.
Flash 7 and 8 are more compatible but choose Flash 9 for now.
Save as FLA if you want to work on it. Once your done, change it to Swift!
Turn your extra layers off.
Swift is playable anywhere.
Make sure to check out the video, its cool!
Peace!
