Here are some stupid ideas that people in the past have thought of and haven't succeeded!
Opening a Ferrari dealership! Think about it, could a 15 year old really open up a place, buy a large amount of Ferrari's and sell them, in only two months! It is highly unlikely. So try to come up with something reasonable, affordable, and realistic!
If you want a level four on your project, you have to work hard and think about every possibility, question, and obstacle. A level three is when Mr.Case will look at your project and will agree that you have done everything that was asked for you to do, nothing more or less. A level two is when Mr.Case looks at your work and laughs! If you want to open up a Ferrari dealership, you guarantee yourself a level two or lower! And level one is when you have not done any sort of thinking on your project and the night before it was due, you remembered that you needed to hand it in! And of course, zero is when you don't hand anything in at all.
Many people first think of retail and selling food. The problem with retail is that you need to sell your product with a lower amount that you bought the product for. Also, how and where are you going to sell them? Wholesale is cheaper in ways because you don't buy a large about of a product. There are many questions you need to be able to answer so that your business goes well. For example, where are you going to keep your product? Where are you going to open up your business? If its at home, then think about how you can sell things by making people come to your house! If you are planing on renting a store somewhere then you need to think about the costs. Like how much you have to pay to rent the place, things like electricity, insurance, alarm systems etc. How are you going to find the money to do all these, but also finish the two months with more money that you started out with.
If you want to sell food to people, for example a hot dog stand, you need to get permission from the government so that you can set up in one specific place in the city. You also need permits that show you are capable of making and selling food to people.
These are just one of the many questions you will be facing when coming up with an idea for your summative. Keep in mind that if you want a good mark, you need to think your idea through, and not just the basics but everything there is about it. Think about the money you will spend and in return the money you will gain.
Your job for the next two days is to come up with an idea for your summer job. Get opinions from three other people. Two your own age, and one adult. See if they think its a good idea, and if it will succeed. Be prepared to do work on it on Wednesday.
Also, make sure you study for the Flash and Dream Weaver test that is coming up on Monday!
There are three types of businesses in Canada:
Sole proprietorship: is when one person owns the business. You can have people work for you, but only one person is the owner.
Partnership: it is exactly as it sounds. You and another person, or people own the business. But if along the way you change your mind and you want to own the whole business, you can pay their share of the business, and therefore making yourself the owner.
Corporation: Corporation is kind of like a company. For example, if you sue a company, you are not necessarily suing the owner but the company itself. A corporation can be owned by more than one person. Although the more supply there is, the more the value of things go down.
A takeover is when someone comes in and expresses their idea but no one likes it, so they don't agree upon it. Therefore everyone decides to vote on it. But if you have bought their share then you win, because you own most of the company. A takeover is when one person has gone around and bought everyone's ownership of the company, and therefore gets to decide upon what changes occur.
These are many things you need to take into account for your project. Remember, if you want a good mark, you have to work hard!
Bye for now.
